Test Development Engineer in Cambridge - Permanent Role

We have a vacancy for a test development enginner in Cambridge, preferably with between 2-3 years experience, and a sound knowledge of C/C++ or Assembler.

Functional Details

Main Functions:

  • Develop test solutions for products
  • Write test applications using C/C++ or Assembler
  • Design and organise manufacture of all test fixtures
  • Write and release test procedures (hardware and software) to client test engineers and subcontractors
  • Provide support and guidance to test engineers and subcontractors regarding test issues
  • Provide guidance to the Board Design team during product specification stage to ensure adequate test coverage can be achieved
  • Maintain existing test procedures (hardware and software)

Other Functions:

  • To keep abreast of current engineering practices, products and processes and any pertinent legislation, standards and/or directives relating to engineering and client products
  • Archive all computer-generated work so that it may be safely recovered in the future
  • Provide internal client technical support
  • Provide technical support for customers
  • Investigate and solve post-production issues in software and hardware
  • Maintain archive of test hardware and software documentation
  • Liaise with other members of the Engineering Department about hardware, software and documentation issues
  • To observe at all times the working practises and procedures in the client Business Manual, and when observed, to highlight changes that could be implemented to ensure a continuous process of quality improvement
  • Awareness of all Health & Safety and Fire Safety procedures relating to the areas of responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a electronic engineering or computer engineering, and/or 2-3 years experience within a design and development environment
  • Have sufficient experience of test development to demonstrate the required level of capability in each of the key competence areas above

Preferred Experience & Skills Required

  • Excellent programming skills (C,C++, Linux/Unix, Visual C++, and Visual Basic)
  • Proven ability in developing low level programs for 32 bit processor platforms
  • Excellent practical electronics skills, including knowledge of analogue and digital electronics
  • Knowledge of test / manufacturing environments
  • Good understanding of networking devices and programmable logic devices (CPLD’s)
  • Familiarity with standard PC environments, including BIOS, DOS, Windows and Linux
  • PC literate, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Intel CPU based computer products
  • Knowledge/Experience of DOS and RTOS products
  • Experience of working within a customer orientated commercial business
  • Be able to demonstrate a high level of accuracy with an eye for detail
  • High degree of numeracy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communicating well at all levels
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines
  • High degree of initiative - able to operate productively alone and as part of a team
  • Experience of working within a strict ISO9001 quality standard environment
  • Good housekeeping skills – maintain a well organised and neat & tidy working area
  • A full clean driving licence
