Functional Details
Our customer operates a direct business to business sales model using a team consisting of external Business Development managers, internal Account Managers and a group of technical sales engineers. The role of the technical team is to provide technical assistance to the other staff as required, but more importantly to lead the process of converting large opportunities through to initial design wins via a combination of sound technical knowledge based upon the companies core products, coupled with commercial estimating, presentation and negotiating skills. We are now looking to augment the technical sales team by adding an individual with good embedded software experience to compliment the hardware skills already present in the team. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate at all levels within a target organisation, and will be able to influence decision makers by establishing themselves and our customer as a trusted partner to the client organisation Whilst ideally already experienced in a sales role, the position would also suit an embedded software engineer with good interpersonal skills looking to move into a more commercially focussed, client facing role.
Main Responsibilities:
- Manage a number of company accounts
- Be a bridge between the Engineering and Sales Departments to provide Account Managers with advance product information and system configuration information
- Guide Account Managers at the technical stage when developing enquiries, acknowledging orders and winning new business
- Accompany and assist Account Managers during meetings (throughout the UK and Europe)
- Serve as a technical consultant to potential and existing customers, qualifying requirements and offering guidance as to the best solution
- Provide cost estimation data and prepare client proposals in support of the Account Managers
- Provide ongoing post-sales technical support when customers are at the development stage
- When in the office, manage client meetings, e-mails and sales calls whenever the relevant Account Manager is unable to do so due to the high level of technical content
- Support the Marketing team in matters of technical accuracy regarding marketing material, website content and to author technical press releases and promotional mail shots
- Attend major industry and electronic exhibitions to promote the company, its products and services
- Plan, document and head presentations to all levels of personnel as part of the company’s proactive training programme
Other Functions:
- Training and developing staff within the Sales & Marketing Department
- Provide colleagues and management with regular project updates
- Perform any other duties as reasonably directed by your Manager
Preferred Qualifications
- HND/Degree, or equivalent in an Engineering subject, and/or 3-5 years experience of working with the embedded computer industry
- Ability to demonstrate capability in each of the key competence areas above
- Current full clean driving licence
Preferred Experience & Skills Required
- Software applications programming experience within the ‘embedded computer’ industry, ideally under Linux and Windows embedded operating systems. Knowledge of JAVA an advantage
- Experience of selling in a business to business environment
- A good understand of technology based computing markets
- An in-depth technical understanding of electronic systems
- Be highly IT and computer systems literate
- Possess comprehensive software, hardware and operating system knowledge (embedded and conventional)
- Possess a thorough knowledge of TCP/IP networking and the internet
- Be able to set up and test proposed systems level solutions
- The ability to produce and deliver professional sales proposals and sales presentations of products and solutions to technical, commercial and directorate staff within customer organisations
- Ability to provide technical support and troubleshooting
- Possess a proficient understanding of customer relations, objectives and be able to meet their expectations
- Possess extensive awareness of pervasive and leading edge technology
- Ability to explain and simplify complex concepts
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a natural ability to work with a variety of personalities
- Display enthusiasm and an energetic approach to the role

It is critical that the individual in this role is a highly motivated, self driven person, who is prepared to go the extra ‘mile’ to make a difference as our client has an established reputation for quality product and technical support. Good communication skills, both written and oral are essential.
